Under the sun trailer
Under the Sun is a documentary film made by the support of Ubiquity Records. Shot in Byron Bay and the Gold Coast, Australia, it explores the roots of surfing commercialism. Often dark and subversive, this brilliant super 16mm film strikes a compelling story through stunning surfing and never-before-seen 70’s footage.
Starring: Dave Rastovich, Nat Young, Beau Young, Rabbit Bartholomew, Dean Morrison
Soundtrack by Shawn Lee, Band of Frequencies, Afro Dizzi Act, and Low Pressure Sound System

"apple juice"
“Long before DEATHBOWL TO DOWNTOWN there was another documentary about skating in New York City called Apple Juice. I don’t want to sound like a sentimental fag or anything, but this video is about as special as they come in Skate History Land. It captures the day to day life of skating in New York at a time when the oldest skateboarders in the city were about 20.
Apple Juice was made by the dudes at the legendary Skate NYC shop in 1990. It was thought to be lost forever until recently, when it was unearthed from a dusty storage space somewhere in the city. Now it’s online for skate dweebs and old men to freak out over for generations to come.”
Coming on the heels of all the ART IN THE STREETS hullaballoo that’s leaving everyone (me, at least) scratching they’re heads and thinking what the hell is going on? is the discovery of this long-lost gem – fucking King Tut’s tomb of the skate world, and it’s so legit. People are STILL TRYING to cop this film style in skate videos, and all of the shit these kids are wearing has become iconic, but the film itself takes place before all that, and is so simple and unassuming because of it. I don’t want to sound like a sentimental fag or anything (to borrow a lovely turn of phrase), but it’s really beautiful.
Who would YOU rather surf like?
Who would YOU rather surf like? 47 year old Tom Curren? or 18 year old Conner Coffin? Combine them both for a little Curfin. Filmed and edited by our friend Michael Kew who says this is the best Rincon has been since March. No doubt not the last time she’ll show up this winter either…
Thats how its done down here
Last day for 2011's winter season at Treble Cone (New Zealand) aka TC.
